One band color, two buckle finishes

The Jib is a sailcloth watch band in one solid color, finished with a black or gold-tone buckle. Navy/Gold looks warm and a little dressy, Gray/Black looks quiet and technical, and Orange/Black looks sporty next to a dive bezel. In every color name the band comes first and the buckle second, so Olive/Gold is an olive band with a gold-tone buckle.

The band is woven nylon with the fine, ribbed texture of sailcloth, and the weave runs on both the top and the underside instead of over a leather lining. It feels light and flexible from the first wear, and there is no leather to soak up sweat on a hot day. Tonal stitching runs along the edges.

The twelve colors cover the classic sailcloth shades. Black, Navy, Gray, Olive, Beige and Brown suit everyday and field watches; Orange, Teal and Mustard bring color to a dive or summer watch. The Jib fits watches with standard straight lugs and spring bars. It does not fit watches with an integrated bracelet or smartwatches that use their own connector. To compare it with leather, canvas and rubber, browse all watch bands by lug width.

Widths, lengths and wrist sizes

Order the width that matches the gap between your watch's lugs, measured from one inside edge to the other in mm. The Jib comes in 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 24 mm, so the in-between 19 and 21 mm sizes are covered too. Many 38 to 42 mm cases use 20 mm lugs, but two watches of the same diameter can differ, so measure yours. Our fit guide shows how to measure lug width and wrist size with a ruler.

The band narrows toward the buckle: a 20 mm band is 18 mm at the buckle, and a 22 mm band is 20 mm. Length depends on the width you pick:

  • 16 and 18 mm: long piece 4.7 in (120 mm) and buckle piece 3 in (75 mm), for wrists of about 5.3 to 6.9 in (135 to 175 mm).
  • 19, 20, 21, 22 and 24 mm: long piece 4.9 in (125 mm) and buckle piece 3 in (75 mm), for wrists of about 6.1 to 7.5 in (155 to 190 mm).

Measure your wrist where the watch sits. Your watch case adds to the total length, so a long dive case lets the band close on a slightly larger wrist than a small dress case does.

Fitting it to your watch

Quick-release spring bars come fitted to both pieces, so you can swap bands by hand. Slide the small lever on the bar toward the middle of the band, set one end of the bar in a lug hole, line up the other end and let go. Give the band a light tug to check that both ends have clicked in. Work over a soft cloth so a slip does not mark the case.

If your current band has plain spring bars, you need a spring-bar tool to take it off; after that, The Jib goes on by hand. It closes with a standard tang buckle, like a leather band: thread the long piece through, set the pin in the hole that sits snug without pinching, and tuck the tail under the keeper. You get both pieces of the band, the buckle and the quick-release spring bars.

Wear and care

Sailcloth shrugs off sweat and rain, and with nylon on both sides there is no leather to darken or stiffen after it gets wet. After salt water or chlorine, rinse the band in fresh water and let it air dry flat, away from a heater. For everyday grime, wash it with a little mild soap and a soft brush, then rinse well. Light shades such as Beige and Mustard show marks sooner than Black or Navy, so give them a rinse more often if you wear them hard.

Questions

What do the two colors in each name mean?

The first color is the band and the second is the buckle. Navy/Gold is a navy band with a gold-tone buckle, and Gray/Black is a gray band with a black buckle. The band itself is one color on both sides.

Which width should I order?

The one that matches the gap between your watch's lugs, measured in mm from one inside edge to the other. The Jib comes in 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 24 mm, including the harder-to-find 19 and 21 mm.

Will it fit my wrist?

The 16 and 18 mm bands fit wrists of about 5.3 to 6.9 in (135 to 175 mm). From 19 to 24 mm the long piece is a little longer, for wrists of about 6.1 to 7.5 in (155 to 190 mm).

Can I wear it in the water?

Sailcloth shrugs off sweat, rain and splashes. After salt water or chlorine, rinse it in fresh water and let it air dry flat. With nylon on both sides there is no leather lining to stain or stiffen.

Do I need a tool to fit it?

Not for The Jib: the quick-release spring bars fit by hand. Removing your old band may need a spring-bar tool if it has plain spring bars. Work over a soft cloth and check that both ends click in.
