Match the width first

Whatever the material, the strap has to match your lug width exactly, including in-between widths like 19 and 21 mm. The fit guide shows how to measure in a minute.

Let leather rest

Giving a leather strap a day off lets moisture evaporate and the material rest. That alone makes a second strap useful: wear rubber for exercise and keep leather for the quieter parts of the day.

Checking your watch lugs

The straps on this page fit watches with standard, straight lugs. If your watch has an integrated bracelet or proprietary smartwatch connectors, standard straight straps will not fit; see our Apple Watch bands and Garmin watch bands instead. You can check our fit guide to verify how to measure your lug width before ordering.

Fitting your strap step-by-step

The Fathom, The Jib, The Bosun and The Waxed Leather Band come with quick-release spring bars that fit with your fingers:

  1. Work over a soft cloth.
  2. Remove your old strap, using a spring-bar tool if necessary.
  3. Position the strap at the watch lugs and slide the quick-release pin lever with your finger.
  4. Fit the pins into the lug holes, release, and check both pins click in.

The Litchi Leather Band comes with standard spring bars and The Fine Mesh takes them too; those are easiest to fit with a spring-bar tool.

Choosing the right length

Lengths differ from strap to strap. The Jib has a 75 mm buckle piece and a long piece of 120 mm in 16 and 18 mm or 125 mm from 19 mm up, and fits wrists of about 5.3-7.5 in (13.5-19 cm). The Bosun has pieces of 120 mm and 80 mm, The Fathom measures about 200 mm across both pieces, and The Waxed Leather Band fits wrists of 6.7-8.7 in (17-22 cm). Because the watch case itself spans part of the wrist, measure your current strap pieces or your wrist alongside your watch case to pick the right length.

Questions

Can I swim with a leather strap?

Keep leather out of water. Moisture can change its color, texture and shape. Choose The Fathom in FKM rubber for water, rinse it with fresh water after salt water or a pool, and follow your watch's own water-resistance rating.

Will the color of my leather change?

Yes. Leather responds to light, oils and use, developing a patina over time. Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth and let it rest between wears.

Do all straps come in the same lengths?

No. The Waxed Leather Band fits wrists of 6.7-8.7 in (17-22 cm), The Jib 5.3-7.5 in (13.5-19 cm) depending on width, and The Fathom measures about 200 mm across both pieces. Check each product page for its length.
