Fit guide
How to measure your lug width and strap length
Two measurements decide the fit: the gap between your watch's lugs and the size of your wrist. Our straps come in lug widths from 12 to 28 mm, and their lengths differ from strap to strap.
1. Measure between the lugs
The lug width is the distance between the inside faces of the two lugs, where the strap meets the case. Measure in millimeters with a ruler or a digital caliper.
- Remove the existing strap if it blocks the measurement.
- Read the exact width, such as 18, 19, 20 or 22 mm. Don't round up or down.
- Check the underside of your current strap for a size stamp.
A 20 mm strap belongs on a 20 mm lug. Squeezing a wider strap into place can stop the spring bar from seating correctly.
2. Choose your length
Wrap a flexible tape around your wrist, just above the wrist bone. Keep it snug without pulling tight. The length of your watch case and how you like it to sit also change where the buckle ends up.
| Strap | Wrist |
|---|---|
| The Jib, 16 and 18 mm | 5.3-6.9 in (13.5-17.5 cm) |
| The Jib, 19 to 24 mm | 6.1-7.5 in (15.5-19 cm) |
| The Perforated Calfskin | 6.3-8.3 in (16-21 cm) |
| The Waxed Leather Band | 6.7-8.7 in (17-22 cm) |
The Jib pairs a 120 mm long piece (125 mm from 19 mm up) with a 75 mm buckle piece, and The Bosun has 120 mm and 80 mm pieces. Compare them with a strap you already find comfortable.
3. Fit the strap
- Lay the watch face down on a clean microfiber cloth and release the old spring bar with the correct tool.
- Seat one end of the spring bar. On a quick-release bar, pull the lever, line up the second pin and let it click into the lug hole; a standard bar is easiest to compress with a spring-bar tool.
- Gently pull each strap half away from the case. Neither spring bar should move or come loose. Check again before wearing.
Integrated bracelets and smartwatches
These often use proprietary connectors rather than standard straight lugs, so straight-end straps won't fit them. For smartwatches, see our Apple Watch bands, Garmin watch bands, Galaxy Watch bands and WHOOP bands. Don't assume a fit from the case diameter alone: check the exact watch reference, and ask a watchmaker if the attachment is unusual. Still unsure? Ask us.
Matching widths to materials
After measuring your lug width, pick a strap style that matches your case. Our straps run from 12 to 28 mm, including in-between widths like 19 and 21 mm. For dry wear, explore our Leather watch straps in waxed, perforated or litchi grain finishes. For a casual look, see our sailcloth Watch bands and NATO straps. If you plan to be near water, choose from our Rubber watch straps, The Fathom in FKM rubber or The Fine Mesh in stainless steel mesh.
For further advice on matching different textures to your watch, see our guide on Which watch strap should you choose?.
Hardware and strap profiles
Hardware differs by strap. The Perforated Calfskin is 3 mm thick with a steel pin buckle, The Fathom closes with a stainless steel folding clasp, and The Fine Mesh uses a folding clasp that clamps onto the mesh wherever you close it. The Jib, The Bosun, The Waxed Leather Band and The Fathom come with quick-release spring bars that fit by hand; straps with standard spring bars are easiest to fit with a spring-bar tool.
When maintaining leather straps, keep them away from water, wipe them with a soft, dry cloth, and allow them to rest between wears. The Rally in nylon sailcloth and The Bosun in canvas on silicone rubber can be rinsed in fresh water after salt water or chlorine, then air dried flat.

Questions
How do I find my lug width?
Measure the gap between the inside faces of the two lugs where the strap attaches. Use millimeters, not inches (watch straps are sized in mm in the US too), and don't round. Your current strap may also have its size stamped on the underside.
Will it fit my watch?
Our straight-end straps fit watches with standard lugs and spring bars. Integrated bracelets, proprietary connectors and some curved cases need a specific strap. Check the exact reference, not just the model name.
Do I need a tool?
Not for straps with quick-release spring bars: those fit with your fingers. Straps with standard spring bars, and removing your old strap, may need a spring-bar tool. Work over a soft cloth and check both pins click in.
Which length should I choose?
Lengths differ by strap, so check the product page: The Waxed Leather Band fits wrists of 6.7-8.7 in (17-22 cm) and The Jib 5.3-7.5 in (13.5-19 cm), depending on width. The length of your watch case changes the final fit, so compare with the strap halves you wear now.
