A racing look in sailcloth

The Rally borrows the perforated pattern of the classic motorsport strap and builds it in nylon sailcloth. Rows of round holes run along both pieces, and the fine, ribbed weave of the top gives it more texture than a plain rubber or leather rally strap. Stitching runs around the edges: tonal on Navy, Black and Olive, and white on Black/White.

Underneath is a smooth black lining that lies flat against the wrist. The holes go all the way through, so air reaches your skin on a warm day, and the band stays light and flexible. It closes with a polished silver-tone tang buckle and a keeper that holds the tail down.

Picking a color mostly comes down to the dial. Black/White echoes the white markers on a black or panda chronograph dial, Navy sits well with blue dials and plain steel, Olive suits field and pilot watches, and Black is the quietest of the four for a black dial or a black-coated case.

The Rally suits chronographs, pilot watches and dive watches with standard straight lugs and spring bars, and any watch you want to look a little sportier. It does not fit watches with an integrated bracelet or smartwatches that use their own connector. For more widths and materials, browse all watch bands by lug width.

Widths, colors and length

Order the width that matches the gap between your watch's lugs, measured from one inside edge to the other in mm. Not every color comes in every width:

  • Navy: 18, 20 and 22 mm
  • Black, Olive and Black/White: 18 and 22 mm

If your watch has 20 mm lugs, Navy is the one to pick. A band one size too narrow leaves gaps at the lugs, and one size too wide will not fit between them, so it is worth measuring before you order. Our fit guide shows how to measure lug width and wrist size with a ruler.

The long piece measures about 4.9 in (125 mm) and the buckle piece about 3 in (75 mm). The easiest check is the band you wear now: lay it flat, measure both pieces from the lug end to the tip, and compare. Your watch case adds to the total length, so a long case lets the band close on a slightly larger wrist than a small one.

Fitting it to your watch

Quick-release spring bars come fitted to both pieces, so you can change bands by hand. Pull the small lever on the bar toward the middle of the band, seat one end in the lug hole, line up the other end and let go. Tug gently to check that both ends have clicked into place. Work over a soft cloth so the case stays free of scratches.

If your current band has plain spring bars, you need a spring-bar tool to take it off; after that, The Rally goes on by hand. Thread the long piece through the buckle, set the pin in the hole that sits snug without pinching, and tuck the tail under the keeper. You get both pieces of the band with the buckle and the quick-release spring bars.

Wear and care

Sailcloth shrugs off sweat and rain. After salt water or chlorine, rinse the band in fresh water, holes and all, and let it air dry flat, away from a heater. For everyday grime, a soft brush and a little mild soap lift dirt out of the weave and the holes; rinse well afterwards. If you swim with your watch most days, one of our silicone and rubber bands is the easier choice for that watch.

Questions

Which colors come in 20 mm?

Only Navy comes in 20 mm. Black, Olive and Black/White come in 18 and 22 mm. If your watch has 20 mm lugs, pick Navy: an 18 mm band leaves gaps at the lugs and a 22 mm band will not fit between them.

How do I find my lug width?

Measure the gap between the lugs from one inside edge to the other with a ruler or caliper. Many 40 to 44 mm cases use 20 or 22 mm lugs, but the band has to match yours exactly, so measure before you order.

How long is the strap?

The long piece is about 4.9 in (125 mm) and the buckle piece about 3 in (75 mm). Lay your current band flat and measure both pieces to compare before you order.

Can I swim with it?

Sailcloth shrugs off sweat, rain and splashes. After the sea or a chlorinated pool, rinse it in fresh water and let it air dry flat. For daily swimming, a rubber band is the easier choice.

Do I need a tool to fit it?

Not for The Rally: the quick-release spring bars fit by hand. Removing your old band may need a spring-bar tool if it has plain spring bars. Work over a soft cloth and check that both ends click in.
