The Taper leather band for Apple Watch, full width at the case and narrow at the buckle

Shaped like a T

The Taper is a leather band for Apple Watch with a T-shaped outline. Each half is full width where it slides into the case, so the band lines up with the edges of the watch. Then it narrows quickly and stays slim down to the buckle. Next to a straight band in the same color it looks dressier, and it shows more of your wrist.

Both halves have stitched edges. The buckle is a plain silver-tone pin buckle, and a leather keeper holds the tail in place.

The size chart in the photos gives the measurements: the buckle half is 3.74 in (95 mm) long, the half with the holes is 4.92 in (125 mm), and the band narrows to 0.55 in (14 mm) toward the buckle. Twelve colors, two case sizes

The colors are Tan, Brown, Burgundy, Red, Dusty Rose, Pink, White, Gray, Light Green, Green, Light Blue and Yellow. Tan, Brown and Burgundy are the classic leather picks. Yellow, Light Blue and the two greens are for days when the band is the point. On a silver or gold case, Tan and Brown look the most traditional. Burgundy and Red stand out against a dark case, and the pale shades sit well with a light one.

There are two case-size options:

• 38/40/41: for 38, 40 and 41 mm cases, and for the 42 mm case of Series 10.
• 44/45/49: for 44, 45 and 49 mm cases, every Ultra included, for the 46 mm case of Series 10, and for the 42 mm case of Series 1 to 3.

A 42 mm watch can go either way. The early 42 mm models, Series 1 to 3, take the larger band, while the 42 mm Series 10 takes the smaller one. Your case size is engraved on the back of the case, and the Watch app on your iPhone shows it under My Watch, General, About.

Not every color is made in both sizes. Gray, Red, Green, Light Green, Light Blue and Yellow come in 38/40/41 and 44/45/49. Tan, Brown, Burgundy, Dusty Rose, Pink and White come in 44/45/49 only. Fitting and care

No tools needed. Put the watch face down, hold the band release button on the back and slide the old band out. Slide each half of The Taper into its slot until it clicks, with the buckle half at the top of the watch and the half with the holes at the bottom. Tug each half gently to make sure it is locked.

The narrow part of the band sits under your wrist, where it is most comfortable when the band is snug but not tight. Pick the hole that keeps the watch on top of your wrist and still lets you slide a finger under the strap.

Keep the band dry. Take it off before a shower or a swim, keep it away from long soaks, and if it gets wet, let it air dry at room temperature, away from a heater or direct sun. Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth to keep it clean. Pale colors such as White, Yellow and Light Blue show marks sooner than the darker ones, so give them a wipe more often. Store the band flat or loosely curled when you are not wearing it, and keep it out of direct sun so the color holds.
