What the Switchback is

The Switchback is a single length of soft woven nylon that closes with hook-and-loop instead of a buckle. You wrap it around your wrist, pull it as snug as you want and press it down. There are no holes, so you are never stuck between two settings: loosen it a little for a long run, or pull it tighter before a steep descent.

The weave is light and bends with your wrist, and with no buckle there is nothing to press into the back of your hand when you type or grip a trekking pole. At the watch end, QuickFit connectors click into your Garmin's lugs by hand, the same way the band it came with does.

It comes in four colors: Black, Charcoal, Navy and Olive. Black is made in the QuickFit 22 size only. Charcoal, Navy and Olive come in QuickFit 22 and QuickFit 26.

Which Garmin watches it fits

Garmin watches with QuickFit lugs take one of three band sizes, set by the size of the case. The Switchback comes in two of them, so start with your watch:

  • QuickFit 22 fits the Fenix 9 47 mm, Fenix 8 47 mm, Fenix E, Fenix 7 and 7 Pro, Fenix 6 and 6 Pro, Fenix 5 and 5 Plus, Epix (Gen 2), Epix Pro 47 mm, and the Forerunner 935, 945, 955, 965 and 970.
  • QuickFit 26 fits the Fenix 9 51 mm, Fenix 8 51 mm, Fenix 7X and 7X Pro, Fenix 6X and 6X Pro, Fenix 5X and 5X Plus, Fenix 3 and 3 HR, the Enduro, Enduro 2 and Enduro 3, Tactix 7 and Tactix Delta, Epix Pro 51 mm and the Descent Mk2.

The small cases, such as the Fenix 8 43 mm and the Fenix 7S, use QuickFit 20, which the Switchback does not come in. Garmin advises against third-party bands on the Fenix 8 Pro, Fenix 9 Pro, Quatix 8 Pro and D2 Mach 2 Pro, because metal parts near the case can disturb their satellite and LTE signals, so we do not list the Switchback for those four watches.

Not sure which size you have? Take your current band off and look at the back: Garmin prints the QuickFit size there. If you are still choosing between materials, see which watch strap to pick.

How to size and fit it

The band is listed for wrists 5.9 to 8.7 in (150 to 220 mm). It is cut on the short side, though: toward the top of that range the hook-and-loop overlap gets small, so it holds best on small and medium wrists. Measure your wrist just above the wrist bone with a soft tape, or wrap a strip of paper around it and measure the paper. Our fit guide has more on measuring.

To fit it, slide the latch on your old band's QuickFit connector and lift the band off the watch. Line up each Switchback connector with the lugs and press it into place until the latch closes over the pin on the watch, then give the band a firm tug to check it is secure. To take it off again, slide the latch and lift. No tools are needed, except on an older Fenix 3 or 3 HR: its first band is held by screws, and Garmin says you may need two T6 Torx drivers to remove it.

Care

Hand wash the band in warm water with a little mild soap, press the water out with a towel and let it dry flat. Close the hook-and-loop on itself first, so the hooks do not collect lint, and brush out any fluff that builds up with a soft toothbrush. Nylon takes water in its stride, but it stays damp for a while after a swim, so rinse it in fresh water after the sea or the pool and let it dry before you cinch it tight.

Delivery and returns

Delivery is $6.95, or free on orders over $49. The delivery time for your country shows on each product page and at checkout.

You can return an unworn band in its original packaging within 30 days of delivery. Return shipping is paid by you, unless the item arrived faulty or incorrect. The full terms are on our delivery and returns page. For silicone, webbing and steel mesh options, see all our Garmin watch bands.

Questions

Which Switchback size fits a Fenix 8?

The 47 mm Fenix 8 takes QuickFit 22 and the 51 mm Fenix 8 takes QuickFit 26. The 43 mm Fenix 8 uses QuickFit 20, which this band does not come in. The Fenix 8 Pro is not on our list, as Garmin asks owners to use its own non-metal bands.

Does it fit the Forerunner 965?

Yes. The Forerunner 965 takes QuickFit 22, as do the Forerunner 935, 945, 955 and 970. Choose QuickFit 22 under Fit.

Will it fit a large wrist?

It is listed for wrists 5.9 to 8.7 in (150 to 220 mm), but it runs short. Near the top of that range the closing overlap gets small, so on a large wrist a band with a buckle is the safer choice.

Can I swim or shower in it?

Yes, nylon handles water, but it takes longer to dry than silicone. Rinse it in fresh water after salt or pool water and let it air dry before you wear it tight again.

Do I need tools to fit it?

No. The QuickFit connectors click into the watch by hand and come out when you slide the latch. The one exception is the first swap on a Fenix 3 or 3 HR, whose stock band is screwed in and may need two T6 Torx drivers.
